AJCDC History

Originally established in 2002 as a 501 (c)3 non-profit, the community development corporation went through a revamp in 2017 with a more defined purpose. This purpose was to:

A. Support and improve the long term health and quality of life of individuals and the community by:

  1. Combatting community deterioration through redevelopment.
  2. Acting as a resource  for economic development by disseminating information to help facilitate and support business growth in the community.
  3. Creating a neighborhood beautification program to help those less fortunate maintain their yards.

Through community outreach and partnerships the AJCDC hopes to create a business friendly atmosphere thereby making it easier for business to thrive.

Making a Difference

The CDC has recently taken on the task of improving the City of Apache Junction by getting directly involved in cleanup efforts throughout the city. In the past several years the board has led the charge and partnered with various government and business entities like Republic Services and Kabat’s Ace Hardware to host neighborhood beautification projects. These events have resulted in over 38 tons of trash being removed from the environment and sent to proper dump sites. The first of these projects, the neighborhood cleanup, began in 2015.

Neighborhood Cleanup Project

In 2015, the AJCDC began implementing its beautification goal of making Apache Junction a highly desirable location for both residents and businesses. Therefore, the Board of Directors began the Neighborhood Cleanup Project that focused on the most needy blocks of the community. This helped residents rid themselves and surrounding properties of excess improperly dumped trash, making for a healthier and more desirable neighborhood. The success led to the more focused Make a Difference Day that broadened the focus from one neighborhood to community wide.

Make a Difference Day

The first Make a Difference Day event was held in 2019. On October 26, 2019 over 130 volunteers gathered to help in several beautification projects throughout the city. The event was such a benefit to the community that it was determined the AJCDC should continue its efforts to make this day of service a staple each year. Further, the demand stemming from this project gave rise to the Community Revitalization Project so the needs of city residents could be better met year round.

Community Revitalization Project

Due to from the success of the Make a Day Difference Project and the need in the community, the AJCDC opted to increase their presence and joined forces with the City of Apache Junction and Just Serve. This partnership allowed residents to get help they desperately needed any time of the year instead of having to wait until October.
